Cottrell Enters Top-10 Rankings

Following a 3-0 performance at last weekend’s Journeymen ASICS Collegiate Classic, Dylan Cottrell has moved in the top 10 in a trio of national rankings, as announced by various publications on Tuesday.

InterMat and The Open Mat have Cottrell ranked at No. 8 in the nation at 165 pounds, while FloWrestling placed him at No. 9 in their poll. He was previously ranked No. 13 by InterMat and Flo.

Cottrell defeated Lehigh’s Cole Walter before upsetting then-No. 9/14 Anthony Valencia of Arizona State in a 6-5 decision. He also defeated No. 10/12 Clark Glass of Oklahoma in a 1-0 decision. He is 5-0 on the season with a 3-0 mark against nationally ranked opponents.

Jacob A. Smith also remains in the top 20 at 197 pounds. Smith is ranked No. 9 via InterMat and is listed at No. 10 by FloWrestling. He is ranked 16th in the nation according to The Open Mat.

West Virginia travels to No. 7 Nebraska on Friday for an 8 p.m. ET dual in Lincoln.
