Mountaineers to Face No. 7 Huskers

LINCOLN, Neb. (Nov. 17, 2016) – The West Virginia University wrestling team will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, on Friday to square off with the No. 7 Nebraska Cornhuskers at the Devaney Center in an 8 p.m. ET dual match.

The match can be viewed on Big Ten Plus, with live results available at TrackWrestling.

Friday marks the 10th all-time meeting between the Mountaineers (0-2, 0-0) and the Cornhuskers (0-0, 0-0 Big Ten). The series dates back to 1980, with Nebraska owning an 8-1 advantage. WVU's last win against the Huskers came in 2002 as the Mountaineers took a 31-21 victory at home. The two last met in 2002, with Nebraska earning a 20-15 victory.

The Mountaineers enter the match looking for the program's 600th all-time win. WVU is 599-448-17 since the start of the program in 1921.

Three Mountaineers finished the 2016 Journeymen ASICS Collegiate Classic undefeated last weekend, as Dylan Cottrell and Christian Monserrat went 3-0 to win their pools at 165 and 149, respectively, while James Dekrone went 4-0 to win his pool at 149 as well. All three remain undefeated this season: Cottrell and Monserrat move to 5-0 while Dekrone is 4-0.

In going 3-0 on the day, Cottrell topped a pair of nationally ranked opponents. He used an early takedown and nearly 3:00 of riding time to earn a 6-5 decision over No. 9 Anthony Valencia of Arizona State. Cottrell later used an escape with four seconds remaining for a 1-0 decision over Big 12 foe No. 10/12 Clark Glass of Oklahoma. His efforts earned him Big 12 Wrestler of the Week accolades for the second time in his career.

Next up, the Mountaineers will travel to the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational from December 2-3.
