MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Nov. 22, 2016) – After downing a top-10 opponent in Friday’s dual at No. 7 Nebraska, West Virginia’s Jacob A. Smith (197) has moved up several spots in the national rankings as announced by several publications on Tuesday.

Ranked No. 9 by InterMat last week, Smith has moved up to No. 7 at 197 pounds. The redshirt junior moved up two spots in FloWrestling’s rankings as well, going from No. 10 to No. 8. Smith jumped six spots in rankings released by The Open Mat, going from No. 16 to No. 10.

The Charleston, West Virginia, native defeated then-No. 6 Aaron Studebaker of Nebraska in a 2-0 decision last week. The two previously met in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Championships, with Studebaker claiming the win.

Despite missing last week’s tilt with the Huskers, Dylan Cottrell moved up one spot to No. 7 in 165-pound rankings released by The Open Mat. The senior from Spencer, West Virginia, is ranked at No. 8 in the nation according to InterMat, while FloWrestling keeps him at No. 9 in its poll.

West Virginia travels to Las Vegas Dec. 2-3 for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational at the Cashman Center.
