National Wrestling Rankings Released

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Dec.13, 2016) – West Virginia University wrestling’s Jacob A. Smith (197) and Dylan Cottrell (165) remain nationally ranked in the most recent rankings released on Tuesday.

Procuring a first-period pin of Pitt’s Jacob Parker in Sunday’s dual at No. 23 Pitt, Smith ranks at No. 7 in the nation at 197 pounds according to InterMat. He remains at No. 8 in FloWrestling’s rankings and moves from No. 10 to No. 9 in rankings released by The Open Mat. Smith, a native of Charleston, West Virginia, is set to square off with fellow West Virginia native, No. 3 Jared Haught of Virginia Tech this weekend.

Cottrell moves up from No. 8 to No. 6 in InterMat’s rankings and from No. 9 to No. 8 in FloWrestling’s rankings. He remains at No. 5 in rankings by The Open Mat. The senior from Spencer, West Virginia, has missed the previous three competitions with a minor injury.

The Mountaineers host No. 6 Virginia Tech on Sunday in a 2 p.m. match at Parkersburg High in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Tickets for the Black Diamond Brawl are available at WVUGAME.com as well as the ticket office at Parkersburg High.
